Meet Your Librarian - Thomas County Public Library

By Stephanie Pichardo, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Thomasville June 22, 2018

Our libraries are so important to us, giving our little ones a chance to read many different books without spending an astronomical amount of money. They also have special events that give them something fun (and free!) to do. Since these libraries are so important, we want to highlight and recognize the amazing librarians who are responsible for all of our kiddos great memories! We ask them the questions you want to know.

This week, we are introducing you to the Thomas County Public Library's Children's Librarian, Amanda Redker:

What inspired/encouraged you to become a librarian? Is there one specific moment when you knew this was what you wanted to do?

I started working at the library when I was in high school.  I just stuck with it

What was your favorite book as a child?

Favorite book as a child was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Jodi Barrett.  I also really enjoyed the BFG by Roald Dahl.

What is your favorite children's book, or series, now?

I actually really enjoy reading Junie B. Joes with my kids.  She is a sassy little girl, and I like that they are written like a kindergartener would talk….I hear a lot of parents say that is why they don’t like her.

Do you have a favorite children's author and why?

Any author that gets children excited about reading!

What is your favorite program at the Thomas County Library?

My favorite program to do is Toddler Time.  That is the first program I started to do when I started doing storytime.  I like singing and acting silly with the kids.

Is there anything else we should know about you or the Thomas County Library Library?

I would like for more people to visit the library.  Take some of our free classes
