Fun Ways to Convince Your Littles to Drink More Water

By Stephanie Pichardo, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Thomasville May 12, 2017

Do your kids need a little motivation to drink more water? It has been a constant battle to keep mine hydrated (Unless it is bedtime, of course!). With the hot weather already here in Southern Georgia, staying hydrated has become a very serious matter. I have scoured the internet for crafty and entertaining ways to keep our kiddos cool and refreshed, so they have the energy to get tuckered out.

Add Fresh Fruit - This is such an easy and healthy way to help water taste better. The bright, beautiful colors don't hurt either. All you need to do is cut up your kiddos favorite fruit, add it to a jug of water with some ice and you are good to go.Try mixing up the fruit you use to add variety and maybe add some herbs too. My kiddos get so excited to find out the Water of the Day!

Freeze that Fruit Water - Make popsicles with the fruit infused water and make sure you include lots of fruit pieces. You can also make ice cubes!

Shaped Ice Cubes - Make ice cubes out of cool shapes! Amazon has a great variety of trays, they even have letters!

Individualized Cups - Kids love to have their own everything! So why not their own cup? Let them add their personal touch with cool straws or stickers.

Water Drinking Games - Have fun with your kiddos playing a water drinking game! Take a game you already know and add when you have to take a drink. Like, I spy... Ex. You tell your kiddos you spot something green. If they guess incorrectly they have to take a drink and try again. When they guess correctly, you have to take a drink. Be creative and let the kiddos invent their own games too.

Pee Color Competition - I know... maybe TMI? Oh well! My kiddos are always commenting on the color of their pee. Why not have a competition for the clearest pee. Winner gets to choose the next day's fruit water.

Now get out and play, stay hydrated, and tucker those kiddos out!
